Workshops That Work: Guiding Young People Toward Safer, Stronger Futures.

At Our Community Foundation, we believe that early intervention is key. That’s why we’ve delivered a range of Community Safety, Career, and Life Workshops to young people aged 11–15 — equipping them with the tools to navigate adolescence with confidence, clarity, and direction.

These sessions weren’t just educational — they were empowering.

From understanding personal safety and decision-making, to exploring career pathways and real-life skills, our workshops created a safe space for young people to reflect, ask questions, and plan for their future.

As Lisa, age 14, shared:
“The careers workshops helped me to decide which course to do at college.”

Why This Matters

In areas like East Birmingham, many young people grow up with limited access to role models, structured guidance, or exposure to different careers. Without early support, they can easily be pulled into harmful environments or left disengaged at key transition points.

Our workshops helped change that by focusing on three critical areas:

Community Safety: Understanding the risks of peer pressure, gang culture, and anti-social behaviour. Young people learned how to stay safe, manage conflict, and make informed choices.

Careers Insight: We introduced a range of industries, college options, and local pathways — supported by relatable guest speakers and hands-on activities. For many, it was the first time they seriously considered their future.

Life Skills: From budgeting and wellbeing to communication and confidence-building, we covered the skills that matter most — but often aren’t taught in school.

The Outcome

These workshops didn’t just raise awareness — they raised aspirations.

90% of Young people left feeling more confident in who they are and where they’re heading.

Teachers and parents reported improved focus and behaviour.

Referrals to early support services decreased.

Some participants even returned later as peer mentors — sharing what they’d learned with others.

Long-Term Value

When we support young people early, we reduce the need for more serious intervention later. Our Community Foundation is proud to deliver practical, preventative work that keeps young people safe, engaged, and ambitious.

The results speak for themselves — and with the right backing, we can scale this impact even further.
