The POD: Seven Years of Trust, Action, and Transformation in East Birmingham.
From 2011 to 2018, The POD wasn’t just a building — it was a second home for thousands of young people in East Birmingham.
Before we opened the POD, the area was a number one hotspot for anti-social behaviour and crime. Our Community Foundation was head-hunted by West Midlands Police to lead on developing youth provision in the area, and help combat youth crime and violence.
We did just that.
With a skate park, BMX track, and bike-building workshops on site, The POD was more than a youth club. It became a trusted base where young people could be themselves, stay safe, and get involved in positive activities every single week.
Whether through skateboarding, BMXing, bike repair, youth social action, or community clean-ups and events, the POD was a consistent source of energy, empowerment, and structure.

The Real Impact
This wasn’t a short-term fix. It was long-term investment — and it worked.
We engaged over 1,200 young people from East Birmingham
80% of regular attendees improved behaviour and school attendance
Many went on to become peer mentors, youth leaders, or volunteers
Generations of families began trusting us with their children — year after year
Why It Worked
Consistency: The POD was always open, always welcoming. Young people came for the activities — but stayed for the belonging.
Relevance: Sessions were fun but purposeful. Young people could express themselves, develop new skills, and be part of something bigger.
Trust: Built over years, not months. Parents knew we delivered. Young people knew we cared.
A Lasting Legacy
The POD didn’t just keep young people off the streets — it gave them direction, relationships, and roots. It created a safe environment where ambition could grow. And even after the doors closed, its impact still lives on in the young people we continue to work with today.
We don’t just run programmes. We build foundations. And The POD is proof that when you commit to a community, the community commits too.
