Breaking Bread, Building Bonds: OCF Youth Iftar.

In the heart of East Birmingham, 30 young people came together at the Naseby Centre not just to break their fast, but to break barriers. Our Community Foundation hosted a special Youth Iftar — an evening of reflection, unity, and belonging for some of the most disadvantaged young people in the area.

For many, this was their first time experiencing Ramadan in a space that recognised their identity and culture while offering warmth, support, and understanding. The evening brought together young people from different backgrounds, creating an inclusive space where faith, friendship, and food were shared in equal measure.

As a place-based organisation embedded in East Birmingham, Our Community Foundation knows that these moments matter. Our youth-led approach means we listen, respond, and act on what young people ask for — and this Iftar was exactly that: for them, by them.

In a time when safe spaces are disappearing, we remain committed to creating environments where young people feel respected, celebrated, and empowered. The Youth Iftar was more than an event — it was a reflection of everything we believe in: community, compassion, and the power of young people to lead.
