Last week, we had the incredible honour of welcoming Sharon Thompson, Deputy Leader of Birmingham City Council and Deputy Mayor of the West Midlands Combined Authority, for a powerful and heartfelt conversation — recorded right here in Alum Rock at the Naseby Youth Centre.
Why is this moment so meaningful?
Over 18 years ago, Sharon and our Founder & CEO Basharat Dad were working side-by-side on the ground in East Birmingham — a council and third sector partnership focused on supporting local children, young people, and families. Fast forward to today, and we’re back in that very space, not delivering a session this time… but recording a podcast about leadership, purpose, and community.
In this episode, Sharon reflects on her journey, the challenges facing Birmingham, and her vision for a fairer, more inclusive city. Her passion and purpose remain unwavering — and her message is clear:
Birmingham must be a city of choice.
Every resident deserves the opportunity to live, work, and grow.
We must keep fighting for a Brum that works for everyone.
