Boxing, Bikes and Bravery: A Young Leaders Story.

At the heart of this year’s Bring The Power  youth event was a young leader whose words captured the spirit of everything we stand for at Our Community Foundation. With energy, passion, and purpose, they stepped up to share their journey — not just as a participant, but as someone who helped lead the entire event.

In their speech, they spoke about their love for boxing and how it’s shaped their discipline, confidence, and resilience. They proudly mentioned Gamal Yafai, a name they look up to — not just as a boxer, but as a symbol of what’s possible when talent meets opportunity. For this young person, Gamal isn’t just a sports figure — he’s proof that greatness can come from Birmingham’s streets.

They also spotlighted the smoothie bike — one of our most engaging health-focused tools — and how much they loved seeing young people have fun while learning about wellbeing in real time.

But what stood out most was the pride in their voice as they described being a youth lead. “It’s a privilege,” they said, “to not just be part of the event, but to run it.” That moment said everything — about the trust we place in young people, the skills they develop through real responsibility, and the joy that comes from making a real impact.

This is what Our Community Foundation is about: giving young people the platform, the tools, and the support to lead. And when they do, they don’t just speak — they inspire.
