Every Thursday, Our Community Foundation delivers targeted mentoring at Rockwood Academy in partnership with Aston Villa Foundation.
Working with two cohorts of young people identified by the school as at risk of crime, anti-social behaviour, exclusion, and disruption, the programme combines mentoring sessions, lunchtime engagement and an afterschool club to build trust and consistency.
The mentoring sessions focus on emotional regulation, goal-setting, and positive decision-making—equipping young people with tools to manage conflict, stay focused in class, and make better choices outside of school. Activities are tailored to individual needs, ensuring each student feels supported and understood.
Having a consistent presence from real models helps build lasting relationships. Over time, this regular engagement is helping to reduce disruptive behaviour, boosting confidence, and re-engaging pupils with their education—laying the groundwork for long-term change in attitude, mindset, and aspiration.
